Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

The closing date is 07 July 2025

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to enhance the current Salt provision within Manchester City Council's Children's Services supporting families and carers whose CYP are 'On the Edge of Care'. This unique role identifies that our YP who are vulnerable because of their Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs also need support with their SLCN.

Do you have an interest in the field of SEMH, and would describe yourself as passionate in supporting the needs of this complex group of CYP? Do you have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team? Are you keen to try different ways of working?

Main duties of the job

As a highly skilled clinician you will be able to offer:

Assessment of SLCN for identified CYP, followed by support

(direct or indirect) and advice to ensure their needs are known and met. We are able to see our YP wherever they feel most comfortable - at home, at Alonzi House, at school etc.

A variety of training options that will inform clients, families, and caregivers about communication, social, and emotional skills, and provide strategies for supporting their needs

Consultation for all staff working at Alonzi House and our residential home - this includes the Outreach Team, Family Group Conference, Life Long Links team, external professionals and residential staff

Individualised interventions in collaboration with key staff members.

We are also looking for someone that can adapt and flex in a situation to meet the needs of our young people, and who can be creative in their critical thinking. However, and more importantly, we are looking for someone who can connect with our YP - regardless of the YP's vulnerabilities and presentation.

We are looking for a therapist who is self-aware and has a level of resilience that can support a strong emotional balance. This is a complex and challenging caseload.
