Job summary

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) is a large tertiary Children's Hospital that provides regional and supra-regional services to include most dietetic clinical paediatric specialties.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 paediatric dietitian to join our dynamic and expanding paediatric dietetic team and support our Complications of excessive weight (CEW)service.

Obesity affects one in four children in the UK and can increase the likelihood of a child developing serious health issues such as Type 2 diabetes, liver conditions and early heart disease. Children living with obesity can also develop difficulties such as breathing problems, sleep issues and mental health problems, which can dramatically impact their quality of life. Two and a half million children in England are affected by excess weight or obesity, with 1.22 million significantly obese and eligible for treatment according to NICE guidance. Complications from Excess Weight (CEW) clinics use a holistic approach to treating conditions related to obesity in children and young people (CYP).

Dietitians are well respected and valued members of RMCH multi-disciplinary teams, and provide both IP and OP services to a comprehensive range of paediatric Tertiary , secondary and neonatal specialtiesAs a team we pride ourselves on the quality of the service we provide and the improved outcomes for our patients and we are always striving to improve by being dynamic and responsive to ideas.

Main duties of the job

RMCH dietetic service is led by a professional paediatric dietetic lead and

  • 4 x B8a clinical specialist / paediatric dietetic team leads
  • 1 x ACP in ketogenic diet therapies
  • 22 x B7 paediatric dietitians
  • 9 x B6/5 rotational paediatric dietitians
  • 4 x paediatric dietetic assistant

You must have experience working in the Clinical acute setting or have obesity management. Paediatric dietetic experience is ideal although not essential as we can fully support your development .

This post would start off in our Manchester CEW service - after approx. 18 months could stay as a static post in CEW or rotate to work alongside experienced dietitians - inpatient and outpatients. The rotations provide opportunity to gain experience across a broad spectrum of clinical specialties and different MDT; e.g. metabolic disease, ketogenic diets, neuro ,haem / onc, critical care ,renal, gastroenterology (Coeliac, IBD, PN and EN), allergy, eating disorders, diabetes.

We are looking for HCPC registered dietitians with a good foundation working in NHS UK hospital dietetics together with evidence of ongoing CPD

There is potentially the opportunity to attend the BDA paediatric master's modules
