Specialist Community Public Health Nurse -School Nurse

Job summary

SCPHN apprentice will work under direction and supervision with Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor, whilst continuing to work with the NMC Code and within the local policies and procedures of the supporting Trust for the legal and statutory requirements relating to clinical practice.

The SCPHN apprentice will support caseload delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, ensuring that care is evidenced based and safe levels of intervention are delivered and have the opportunity to work with the other School health functions.

The SCPHN apprentice will use a child centred and public health approach to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in school.

The SCPHN apprentice will be expected to engage and utilise learning opportunities, both in community and university settings, ensuring that by the end of the course the successful candidate has developed the knowledge base, skills and competencies work of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nurse.

Main duties of the job

The apprentice will demonstrate the following to take place:

To take full advantage of the opportunities offered whilst in a practice placement to underpin the theoretical knowledge gained within the educational institute and its application to clinical

To take responsibility for identifying own learning needs under the guidance of the Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor

To seek out additional learning opportunities available in the community.

To demonstrate the achievement of NMC competencies necessary to practice within specialist post by completion of the

Attend university and successfully complete all assignments/exams.

Attend practice placement and successfully complete all practical competencies and practice portfolio.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM)
  • 120 credits at level 6
  • Maths and Englisgh GCSE or equivalent grade c or above

Desirable

  • Post-registration experience and completed a minimum of one year post initial registration experience.
