Paediatric Dietitian - Complications of Excess Weight (CEW)

Job summary

Royal Manchester Children's hospital (RMCH) has developed a CEW multidisciplinary team with national funding to provide treatment for complications related from excess weight (CEW) in children and young people. RMCH is a tertiary Children's Hospital that provides services to most dietetic clinical paediatric specialties.

The postholder will be managed as part of our RMCH paediatric dietetic service - a large acute team consisting of 38 dietitians and 5 assistants.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Manchester CEW team and support developments working in an established multidisciplinary team (Endocrine consultants, specialist nurses, physician, clinical psychologists, specialist physiotherapist, youth worker and 1.00 wte specialist dietitians).

The successful band 7 applicants will have significant dietetic post grad Clinical experience with post registration training in clinical Paediatric dietetics /weight management. You will be currently working at band 6 level and have experience working with children for diabetes /weight management with leadership and management experience.

The post could be a band 6 to 7 training post if you have less management experience but the right clinical competencies. We will support your development and upgrade the post to band 7 once you meet the leadership and management competencies

Main duties of the job

There is a diverse caseload with both dietetic led /MDT outpatient clinics, group sessions, and inpatient management requiring an advanced level of clinical dietetic expertise and MDT working.

Excellent leadership and motivational skills alongside effective communication will be required to optimize treatment outcomes and liaise with patients, parents/ carers, other health care professionals, schools, social care and local community teams.

There is a wide variety of teaching opportunities with both patients, carers and health care professionals from facilitating nutritional education sessions to more formal evidence-based lecturing e.g. masters of dietetic training or presenting research projects at conferences.

The postholder will have the opportunity to participate in and initiate quality initiatives, research projects, and audits. They will be responsible for reporting on outcomes and service evaluations including the voice of the child and patient experience.
