Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to work in our long established Burns and Plastics pressure garment service based at Wythenshawe Hospital, under supervision of the senior pressure garment technician.

Based in the New Plastic Surgery Out-Patient Department, the pressure garment service predominantly accepts referrals from Burns in and out-patients, plastic surgery dressings, consultant and scar clinics and direct from hand therapy.

Main duties of the job

The post requires an ability to work closely with a team of nurses and therapists covering a busy caseload. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for producing, repairing and altering bespoke pressure garments to a high standard for a wide variety of conditions, in addition to advising on other scar management techniques.

It is essential that the individual possesses strong garment making skills and can demonstrate the ability to use a sewing machine. Once in post, additional training will be given to enable the successful candidate to fulfil the unique requirements of this role, including being independently able to assess patients to cover for the senior technician when on leave.

Applicants should demonstrate clinical reasoning and organisational skills We require a senior assistant who is a good team worker and communicator, is respectful of patient's dignity and compliant with clinical governance. They ideally should be flexible with regard to work patterns and prepared to maintain high standards of clinical practice.
