Job summary
The Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist with a special interest in the management of persistent pain in our forward-thinking MDT Pain Service. The role will be based between the Community Pain teams and the Secondary Care MFT Pain Service.
You will be naturally empathetic, demonstrating high level communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both patients and colleagues. You should have demonstrable knowledge of pain management physiotherapy, with the ability to prioritise your workload. We are looking for a team player who is a good communicator, has a solution-focused outlook and emotional resilience.
Using your specialist clinical skills and understanding of musculoskeletal and persistent pain conditions, you will carry out biopsychosocial assessments. You will provide specialist physiotherapy input including individual or group work in Pain Management Programmes in conjunction with Psychology and other MDT colleagues.
You will be supported through clinical supervision, physiotherapy peer supervision and attendance at monthly MDT meetings. You will be required to hold a valid HCPC registration and be able to evidence advanced skills as a senior clinician working with patients with long-term chronic pain.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job will involve:
- Assessment and treatment of patients with persistent pain. This may include joint assessments with other colleagues in the MDT.
- Individual pain management physiotherapy treatment.
- Group based pain management programmes.
- Contributing to the MDT and joint decision making and also providing specialist advice within the team regarding patients' physical presentations, physical potential and barriers to functional change
- Contributing to research and audit.
- Teaching and training as part of the MDT and Pain service.
- Co-facilitating undergraduate physiotherapy student placements.
