Job summary

  • First line contact and departmental link with Clinical Engineering and associated parties
  • To undertake the acquisition of Capital Equipment and the preparation of business cases for rolling equipment replacement programs.
  • Emphasis will be on the control of the Capital Asset Register and upkeep of Equipment within the Selected area.
  • To be a first line contact for all multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals with queries regarding medical equipment.
  • To be the first point of contact for all Equipment Company Representatives entering the relevant department.
  • To coordinate hiring, repair and control of equipment and materials passing through the department.
  • To utilize GS1 codes to allow all equipment to be traced through a full asset management when the system is implemented.
  • The post holder should preferably have a sound knowledge of Peri-operative environments and Medical/Surgical Environment and have worked within a clinical setting.
  • The post holder will work in conjunction with the Unit Directors for the relevant area/s alongside Team Leaders and their own line managers within Procurement and Materials management.
  • The post holder may be required to attend and participate in the theatre Equipment and procurement meetings as/when required.
  • To attend and participate in departmental Clinical Effectiveness group.

Main duties of the job

  • Have responsibility for hiring, repair and control of medical equipment used within the department(s).
  • Process orders and organize quotations for all capital equipment needs.
  • Liaise with Clinical Engineering to ensure the Departmental Capital Asset Register is populated.
  • Work with Clinical Engineering to decommission equipment ensuring de-population of asset register.
  • Work with the Departmental Management team in support of Equipment Replacement Program needing to be capitalized.
  • Support trials of equipment to ensure evaluation documentation is completed. Feedback will involve discussions with all clinical grades of staff.
  • First line contact for organizing and delivering in-service training on new and existing equipment for all disciplines of staff.
  • To prioritize and act upon medical alerts ensuring effective communication to relevant members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Liaise with Departmental Equipment lead responsible for Quality & Safety ensuring adequate risk management.
  • Contribute to upkeep of risk register, to enable identification of equipment at risk. The evidence will form the basis of business cases, to acquire capital replacement funding.
  • Create and maintain databases to input data relating to maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Contribute to relevant Trust savings initiatives and green Agendas inline with objectives to deliver patient value for Money services.
  • Contribute to any Audits including accreditation & CQC Inspections
