Job summary

The Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre (MSSSC) is housed in the Stopford Building at the University of Manchester on Oxford Road. The Centre has extensive modern facilities largely focused on surgical training needs. A key facet is the ability and focus to utilise human cadavers for training and simulation, under the auspices of the required HTA licence.

Main duties of the job

The Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management and organisation of MSSSC admin workstreams and team. The role will be pivotal to establishing the MSSSC as a long-term education facility within MFT, including potential expansion of the Centre to be used for Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) training.

The postholder will be responsible for managing and organising multiple complex projects/workstreams to support the objectives of the MSSSC agenda including:

  • Providing high level administrative support to the Head of Service.
  • Building and maintaining close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting new workstreams, e.g. development of RAS, working with the Head of the Service, Clinical Director and other colleagues within and external to MFT
  • Designing, improving, and implementing systems and processes that contribute to the effectiveness and productivity of the team.
  • Analysing and presenting complex data at strategy and operational meetings.
  • Supporting service expansion and supporting delivery of marketing activities.
  • Supporting the Head of Service with financial reporting and monitoring.
  • Line management and development of MSSSC staff as required.

The post holder will have close working relationships with the Head of Service, NHS England, and other external and internal stakeholders.
