Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Cardiologist with a special interest in Echocardiography to join our team, which works across Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital. The echo team has 5 existing echo consultants, 2 consultant echo physiologists, several BSE accredited band 8 and band 7 sonographers who perform all advanced modalities of echo including TOE, Stress, ACHD and structural intervention studies. 31,000 TTE scans are performed per annum plus 2000 stresses and 400 TOEs. The team also supervise the valve, endocarditis and rapid access chest pain services. The consultants are quorate to many cardiac and surgical MDTs and the Trust is commissioned for TAVI, TEER and PFO closures. The echo team work closely with cross-sectional imaging teams, cardiac surgeons, transplant and VAD surgeons, structural interventional teams, ICC teams, the Liverpool ACHD team, cardiac anaesthetists and general intensivists. The wider cardiology department includes 50 sub-speciality cardiologists and 15 cardiac and transplant surgeons. Echo consultants are integral to most cardiac pathways and this is a great opportunity to work within the largest Trust in the country and one of the largest echo teams!

Main duties of the job

Day to day duties will include supervising and reporting stress and TOE lists, supporting specialist nurses running valve clinic and rapid access chest pain clinics, supervising and training junior doctors, colleagues, physiologists and specialist nurses. There will be one OPD clinic and one echo review meeting per week. Furthermore, the post-holder will be expected to participate in the subspecialty MDTs (e.g. mitral, TAVI, coronary, HOCM and endocarditis), support interventional and EP colleagues in the catheter lab with TOEs, support anaesthetic and surgical colleagues in cardiac theatres and critical care and provide governance input to our satellite echo services at Christie Hospital and GP practices. CT or CMR reporting sessions could also be considered if desired.
