Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Clerical officer/Receptionist with previous administration experience to work in the friendly but busy Lung Function Department based at Wythenshawe Hospital.
This post is responsible for providing a comprehensive administrative service for the Department of Lung Function in accordance with relevant policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
Attention to detail is essential. You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software with the ability to pick up computer processes / systems quickly.
The ability to work under pressure whilst remaining calm is essential, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and have excellent communication skills. A flexible and co-operative approach is essential.
Main duties of the job
Core Duties
- To provide cover for reception, greeting patients, using hospital systems to book/cancel a patients hospital appointment whilst simultaneously speaking with the patient regarding their appointment date, time and possible location, sending letters where appropriate.
- Updating patient records where necessary.
- Update hospital system on patient attendances and outcomes in clinic.
- Directing patients and assisting patient requirements.
- To communicate with service users in a sympathetic and empathetic manner using tact and diplomacy both in person and over the telephone.
- Liaise with the Patient Transport service and Interpretation service.
- Request portering staff to assist patients via an electronic service.
- Liaise with internal and external departments or organisations, dealing with their enquiries or referring on where required.
- Liaise with medical and scientific teams as appropriate.
