This job is now closed

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Occupational Therapist on the newly developed Oak unit at Trafford hospital. The unit is in the process of transitioning into a clinical speciality for older adults with frailty conditions that require well planned multi-disciplinary discharge from hospital.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) to work alongside the clinical team to develop the therapy interventions and establish the therapy role. You will work closely alongside a clinical specialist OT and clinical lead OT in the developments and progression of the service with a very strong OT identity and professional role.

This is a perfect opportunity for a well-established band 5 seeking progression experience, or a band 6 looking to enhance their clinical and leadership skills in a new clinical area.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have established skills in assessing every patient's potential to return to their preferred place on leaving the hospital, as this is integral to the team's vision.

A diverse clinical understanding of frailty conditions is essential. Excellent clinical reasoning skills, rapid assessment and discharge planning skills in addition to meeting the needs of patients with complex frailty needs are required for this post. The post holder must be a calm but assertive communicator, who is able to negotiate a way forward in even the most challenging situations. An awareness of the Greater Manchester Discharge to assess processes and pathways would be desirable.

The post holder, at onset, will be supported by a robust induction. There is a support network for all staff including clinical supervision and you will be directly involved in the supervision of junior staff and students.

Applicants should be prepared to participate in a 7 day working service.

The successful candidate must hold a full driving license as this is essential to meet the requirements of this post.

If you're excited by this opportunity and think you're a great match in both skills and experience, we welcome your application. Alternatively, if you'd like more information, email Gyll.Shields@mft.nhs.uk

We're really keen to hear from you and welcome informal discussion/ visits to understand the role in more detail.
