Job summary
The post holder is responsible for maximising sales and profits by maintaining high standards in food safety, retail offers and customer service. To ensure the smooth and efficient running of all retail outlets at all times and ensure the focus is on the customer's needs. To assist other managers in other areas within the Catering department as and when required.
Main duties of the job
- To maximise sales by understanding the needs of customers, consider the customers in all areas of activities and strive to exceed the customers' expectations.
- Provide clear direction, ensuring the team is motivated. Create appropriate balance of knowledge, skills, and experience through on the job training and development.
- To make use of all available information to ensure all decisions follow the correct Trust directives, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of business objectives, performance and associated computer software.
- Communicate confidently and effectively at all levels to share knowledge and ideas to drive business forward.
- Frequently review retail offerings to ensure they are of the latest trends and fashions customers want to engage with.

Job responsibilities
- Input, collate and analyse all EPOS information, used in the financial end of months return. Update EPOS with prices and product changes.
- Undertake end of month stock takes and end of year stock take.
- Return to Catering Managers every month a true reflection of trade using a Profit and Loss spread sheet.
- Keep accurate and clear Food Safety Records (HACCP) whilst maintaining the highest standards of Food Safety.
- Manage deliveries, damages, and storage of all stock items.
- Effectively manage the budgetary resources and control the departments expenditure within the agreed financial allocation.
- Actively participate in the recruitment, training, disciplining and welfare of staff in accordance with Trusts Corporate Policies.
- Maintain an awareness of appropriate professional and educational establishments and attend training courses and workshops where relevant to the post.
- Negotiate changes to staff hours, rotas, or work practices, whilst ensuring rotas are managed in an efficient and cost-effective way.
- Arrange for induction and other relevant courses for staff, provide on-the-job training where necessary, to ensure that staff are proficient and regularly updated with regards to any new developments and improvements in working methods.
- Resolve complaints effectively in line with the Trusts complaints procedure.
- Authorise annual leave, overtime, and time off agreements.
- Maintain adequate stock levels, within the specific budgets, understanding best value.
- Participate in team briefing process by attending department team briefs each month.
- Deal tactfully with customers and patients that are upset or angry.
- Deal with some HR situations, persuasively and tactfully whilst listening carefully to staff concerns.
- Train staff in the use of specialist equipment related to food service, and good customer service practices.
- Provide and receive routine information orally to inform work colleagues, patients and clients.
- Exchange information with peers and other departments in relation to catering services.
- Liaise with other catering staff in all areas when instigating any changes to service or menu.
- Support and supervise catering staff in other areas when there is a need to, due to absences.
- Securely handling petty cash, floats, card payments and takings, whilst following the Trusts cash handling policies and procedures.
- Analyse till data to effectively manage time and resources.
- Use information from the EPOS system to provide financial information.
- Carry out risk assessments.
- React quickly to unexpected events including allocation of work, menu changes and system failures.
- Checking stock levels and ordering appropriately not exceeding maximum stock levels.
- Organise staffing rotas, equipment repairs and hospitality requests.
