Job summary
Enthusiastic and highly motivated clinicians are invited to submit an application for the post of Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine, with a specific subspecialty interest in Severe Asthma and/or Sleep Medicine although other sub-specialist interests will also be welcomed. This is an opportunity to join our dynamic and well-established team of respiratory consultants who are experts in their respective fields. North Manchester General Hospital joined Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) in April 2021 and is now part of one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country. Consultants joining us therefore have unparalleled opportunities for development whilst working in a friendly medium sized general hospital setting.
Main duties of the job
The specialist respiratory services at North Manchester provides services to patients from a catchment population of 820,000 in the North-East sector of Greater Manchester.
As well as dedicated inpatient facilities the service also provides chest clinics supported by specialist respiratory nurses and allied health professionals. The Respiratory Directorate runs a portfolio of world class sub specialty services including sleep medicine, lung cancer, asthma, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, occupational lung disease, pleural and sleep clinics. Bronchoscopies, EBUS and thoracoscopy are among the planned investigations that are undertaken as well as a pulmonary physiology and a specific bronchial challenge suite on site.
In patient work includes working on ward I6 (respiratory ward) at North Manchester General Hospital for 1 week every 2 months and taking part one morning per week in a Medical Assessment Unit respiratory in- reach. The general medical take is managed by Acute Physicians 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and involves post take ward rounds after 6pm in the weekdays. Acute physicians are also present during weekend hours. This post does not require the applicant to undertake on-call duties.
You will be involved in the provision of appropriate specialist clinics and actively involved in audit, teaching and research. We have opportunities for development in education, management, service development, governance as well as research.
