Are you a motivated and experienced physiotherapist with a passion for rehabilitation and a good working knowledge of specialist equipment for children and young people with complex and rare conditions? An exciting opportunity has arisen within our well-respected, integrated paediatric physiotherapy team at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. As a highly specialist physiotherapist you will have recent substantial experience of working directly with children/young people with complex and changing health care needs and with their families in an acute inpatient and/or community setting.
Due to the changing needs of this group of patients ideally you will have respiratory skills or if not, a willingness to undergo a training programme delivered locally.
Participation in the physiotherapy respiratory or weekend orthopaedics and major trauma out of hour's service is part of the role depending on your knowledge, skills, and experience.
Main duties of the job
Physiotherapy is part of a dedicated highly specialised nationally funded service to deliver treatment to patients with Lysosomal Storage Disorders (e.g. Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS), Niemann Pick and Batten's Disease).
You will develop a sound understanding of the issues relating to the identification, assessment, treatment, and management of this group of patients. You will be involved with the children and their families from diagnosis right through to transitioning to the adult service, seeing them through various surgical interventions and communicating their needs with the local services. You will be the lead physiotherapist for children and young people with a diagnosis of Batten's Disease as part of a newly established multidisciplinary team.
You will be a proactive core member of the multidisciplinary Lysosomal storage disorders team managing these patients. There are many exciting research trials in this area which you would also be involved with.
