Job summary
The post-holder must be a good team member, who will be responsible for the technical training of all grades of staff in specified areas of expertise. The post-holder will also be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota after relevant training. This technical role will also include a responsibility for stock control and laboratory equipment. Further study towards relevant qualifications will be encouraged.
Main duties of the job
responsible for receipt of deliveries and their correct storage
responsible for monitoring complex laboratory equipment performance and recording data records and reporting performance to the Equipment Officer
responsible for stock control of reagents
receipt, recording and processing of samples received by the laboratory
isolation of white blood cells, serum and nucleic acids from blood and tissue samples
HLA typing
participation in Laboratory work rotas and general housekeeping duties
participation in relevant external quality assessment schemes
crossmatching for histocompatibility testing
definition of HLA specific antibodies
reporting test results to the relevant Clinical Scientist in a timely manner
To support the out of hours' work of the Department as required
