Job summary

Health Innovation Manchester is looking for a dynamic Business Manager to execute on its strategic business priorities, with a particular focus on driving industry partnerships.

They will be politically astute, a problem solver, with effective communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work quickly in response to changing demands and multiple priorities.

This is an exciting new role and a chance to work across a broad innovation and commercial portfolio to support improvements across the Greater Manchester health and care system.

Main duties of the job

The Business Manager (Industry Partnerships) has a pivotal role in working with the Commercial Director and Programme Director for Industry Partnerships to execute on strategic business priorities on behalf of Health Innovation Manchester, with a particular focus on industry partnerships.

The postholder will provide specialist knowledge and expertise in system engagement, business planning and governance, with a deep understanding of the digital and innovation landscape across GM and nationally.

They will oversee the effective management and planning of a range of strategic projects, whilst ensuring activities and services are planned and managed effectively to ensure successful delivery. They will also design and implement appropriate systems and processes to capture and report on performance data and assurance.

The Business Manager will be politically astute, a problem solver, with effective communication and influencing skills, and has the ability to translate conceptual or complex information into a simple and understandable design or narrative that can be understood by a broad range of stakeholders.

This includes information for presentation to Board Committees, understanding decisions taken and providing feedback.

Establish and proactively maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of diverse internal and external stakeholders and groups, including senior staff at the Department of Health, Government Departments, senior staff in the NHS (at local, ICS, regional and national levels) and partner/supplier organisations.

Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services, and initiatives to provide information and expertise and effectively motivate others to improve services.

Work in collaboration with others and as part of cross-directorate teams to deliver successful

Work closely with the HInM Programme Director for Industry Partnerships to oversee running of the commercial team and associated activities, including running team meetings, compiling, and tracking progress against joint workplans and addressing issues that arise.

Provide timely and accurate written reporting, with information presented in a suitable format for the relevant audience. To contribute to detailed reports offering specialist advice

Ensure that accurate minutes and actions are recorded, followed up and reported, including ensuring Terms of Reference are produced and communicated, and that these are reviewed in line with best practice and proposed changes escalated to the Chair as required.

Provide oversight and management support to the diary managers to ensure efficient use of resources, troubleshoot problems and provide a professional externally facing service to stakeholders

Identify development needs for others and enable opportunities for others to apply their developing skills, behaviours and knowledge.

Financial management

Review and monitor the operational budgets in terms of expenditure and develop financial projections, reporting to the Head of Business Planning.

Use financial systems to manage invoices, purchase orders and payments and keep effective financial records and ensure that these are fully understood across teams with accurate input received on forecasts.

Under the direction of the Directors and finance leads, support contract negotiations with external suppliers to deliver best value and ensure procurement and contractual terms are adhered to in a transparent manner.
