This is an exciting opportunity to lead Imaging operational services within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). The post holder will be required to work alongside key stakeholders and partner agencies to enhance imaging provision for both adults and children living in our communities.
As the Head of Imaging Operations, you will work alongside the Divisional Director to provide leadership and guidance, you will be a visionary leader and strategic thinker playing a pivotal role in the delivery of our imaging strategy. You will be responsible for daily operational management of the division ensuring systems and processes are in place to support effective service delivery.
The ideal candidate will be an influential and forward-thinking leader, with a highly developed knowledge of operational process and management. You will be experienced in leading large scale improvement initiatives with a clear vision of how processes, technology, governance, and people need to interact to drive optimisation. You will be passionate about improvement and customer experience, inspiring team members and stakeholders in a clear vision for the service, within a clear delivery framework. With a highly collaborative and cohesive style, you will be skillful in influencing, negotiating, and enabling change efficiently and effectively.
Main duties of the job
Bringing a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge, the Head of Imaging Operations is responsible, in conjunction with the Divisional Director and the Clinical Head of Division, for the operational management of all patient services within the Division of Imaging. You will develop and oversee the implementation of operational development and improvement programmes to drive through the delivery of ambitious targets.
You will provide effective leadership to an informed and engaged Imaging team; leading and supporting the division to hold service lines to account for daily activities. Using your highly developed operational management skills you will optimise performance using a data driven approach.
You will embrace effective governance, ensuring policies and controls are in place to balance risk, ensure compliance and facilitate effective decision making.
Using agility to adapt your style to all situations, you will work inclusively and flexibly with a range of colleagues from different backgrounds, to ensure that our operations strategy and imaging services enable the Trust to support and value our people, patients, and communities.

MFTs Clinical Scientific Services (CSS) has a workforce establishment of over 5000 and provides specialist services across multiple specialties including Anaesthetics, Critical Care & Pain, Pharmacy, Laboratory Medicine, Imaging and Allied Health Professions. To give you some insight into size and scale of delivery, in 2022-2023 the Managed Clinical Service (MCS) had a total of 32,000 Critical Care bed days, dispensed a total of 1,560,239 medicines across the Group, and undertook 360,000 X-Rays, 84,000 CT scans and 54,000 MRI scans. The Laboratory Medicine team analysed and reported 10,744,441 Laboratory tests and the Anaesthetic team delivered Anaesthetist cover for 20,696 theatre sessions.
