Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and HPB Clinical Nurse Specialist position within the Single Management Service Gastrointestinal Clinical Service Unit (CSU). The CSU brings together medical and surgical specialties dealing with diseases and disorders of the digestive system under one umbrella. As a Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI)/HPB Clinical Nurse Specialist you will become an integral part of our workforce and form part of our vision for achieving excellence. The post holder will provide expertise care and advice management, be motivated, enthusiastic and willing to work as part of the UGI/HPB nursing service to deliver specialist nursing care for patients diagnosed with UGI cancer through treatment and follow up. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver a nurse led triage service for suspected UGI cancer referrals. Working autonomously to review referrals, select appropriate investigations and manage results, with the support of medical colleagues.

You will have extensive experience as a band 6 CNS and demonstrate effective leadership.

The SMS Service is based across 3 hospitals in Greater Manchester, this post will be based at North Manchester General Hospital but will require cross site working.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will possesses excellent communication skills and have an ability to deal with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person in a polite and compassionate manner, you must have the ability to assess patients suitability to be directed straight to test investigations. You will be expected as part of your role to triage the suspected cancer referrals to the UGI/HPB service by assessing electronic referrals from GP's, communicating with the patient via the telephone to arrange suitable diagnostic investigations and review all results.

You will liaise with all members of the MDT, to facilitate the teaching of ward staff, patients, families and carers of all aspects of UGI/HPB disease. You will also be expected in conjunction with the audit team to record data, compile results and present them to relevant members of the MDT. You must be a dynamic flexible individual with advanced IT, administrative and organisational skills should ideally have a minimum of two year experience in UGI/HPB nursing and have shown a keen interest in developing your clinical skills and knowledge
