Job summary

Applications are invited for Junior Locally Employed Doctor/ Junior Clinical Fellow posts in Cardiology. There are 2 posts based at Manchester Royal Infirmary which are part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Working in busy and supportive tertiary cardiology departments offers ample opportunities for developing clinical knowledge and skills to IMT level and opens exciting opportunities to enhance your CV towards careers in medical specialties, particularly cardiology.

Successful candidates will be exposed to the assessment and management of patients presenting with a wide range of cardiac conditions; competency in interpreting ECGs, assessing complex presentations including tachy and brady arrhythmias, acute coronary syndromes, performing procedures such as central venous lines, temporary pacing, pericardial drains, echo cardiograms, depending upon the interests of the candidate.

Experience working in a cardiology department in the UK will be useful for these posts due to the busy and challenging nature of the work.

Main duties of the job

The primary duties of the post include management responsibilities for patients on the cardiology wards. In addition, educational opportunities will be facilitated for all successful candidates in line with personal development aspirations. For example, these could include exposure to cardiology outpatient clinics, catheter laboratory procedures, and outpatient cardiac diagnostics. The level of involvement in these activities would be commensurate with the individuals' level of training.

The post holder will contribute an on call rota. This rota is a 1:9 partial shift rota to care for cardiology inpatients and new admissions under the cardiology team.

All pre-MRCP candidates will have the opportunity to join the Trust's MRCP training programme in conjunction with other Trust clinical fellows.
