Job summary

Main duties of the job

Whether you join us as a Nursing Assistant or Maternity Support Worker, you'll make sure our patients have the quality care and support they deserve.

These roles are vital and varied. As a Nursing Assistant, you might work with patients who have a physical disability, have dementia or who suffer from anxiety. In Maternity Support, you could play a key role in supporting women with all aspects of infant feeding. Whatever reason a loved one is in hospital, it takes its toll on their family too. You'll treat every person you come across with dignity, respect, kindness, and patience.

You'll be there to help with things like washing and dressing, eating, and drinking, moving around and getting to the toilet. You'll also monitor conditions of patients taking temperature and pulse, checking respiration, and measuring weight. As well as helping create the right conditions for patients to rest and sleep, you'll make sure that people have any religious and cultural needs met.

More specific responsibilities will include:

  • Making patients and their relatives feel welcome, safe, and supported.
  • Communicating with and co-ordinating patients, relatives, and healthcare practitioners.
  • Keeping patient notes and charts updated, along with any other clerical and admin tasks.
  • Helping patients, carers and relatives take an active role in their care.
  • Maintaining the highest health and safety standards in the ward and other patient care settings.
