HPB Endoscopy Interventional Clinical Nurse Specialist for ERCP

Job summary

The individual will be proficient and competent in all HPB Endoscopic interventions including ERCP, EUS/FNA, Axios stent insertion and Spyglass procedures. You will supervise members of the nursing team ensuring competency-based assessments are completed for all staff allocated to assist with HPB procedures.

The post holder will co-ordinate and organise the inpatient and outpatient referrals for ERCP providing nursing support, information and advice to patients and their families, relatives and carers. The post holder will facilitate communication and act as liaison between the referrer, clinicians, ward staff and endoscopy unit staff.

The individual will develop and maintain safe pathways for patients who require Endoscopy Procedures on GA/Deep Sedation lists ensuring that the patients have attended for pre-operative/anaesthetic assessment.

To facilitate the safe efficient and optimal use of ERCP sessions. The post holder is expected to provide nurse led consent for inpatients and outpatients where appropriate.

You will be based at North Manchester Hospital,but you may be required to work across sites as part of a Single Managed Service. An ability to work autonomously and to respond quickly to requests is required in addition to the ability to use your own initiative.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will possesses excellent communication skills and have an ability to deal with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person in a polite and compassionate manner, you must have the ability to take the lead role in managing the ERCP referral waiting list for endoscopic examination following medically agreed protocols and criteria. Assess the patient's suitability for the endoscopic procedure. Manage the waiting list prioritising patients according to clinical needs in accordance with agreed protocols/criteria. Be able to identify those patients who can safely be discharged and return for their procedure as an outpatient.Ensure interventions are undertaken in line with best practice guidance.

You will liaise with all members of the MDT, to facilitate the teaching of ward staff, patients, families and carers of all aspects of HPB disease and ERCP. You will also be expected in conjunction with the audit team to record data, compile results and present them to relevant members of the MDT. You must be a dynamic flexible individual with advanced IT, administrative and organisational skills should ideally have a minimum of three to four years experience in Endoscopy nursing and have shown a keen interest in developing your clinical skills and knowledge
