Job summary
The RAPID programme which stands for 'Rapid Access to Pulmonary Investigations and Diagnosis' is a project launched by the lung cancer team based at Wythenshawe Hospital to dramatically reduce the time taken to complete investigations for patients where there is any suspicion of lung cancer. The team covers lung cancer diagnostics, radiology bookings and the CURE team managing patients with tobacco addiction.
The post holder will coordinate the RAPID clinics and ensure clinics are booked, coordinate patients and ensure all relevant tests are done in a timely manner, and results are ready for the MDT team to view. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of a wider team covering several areas including CT guided biopsies, clinic reception desks, and the cancer pathway navigators.
The successful candidate with have experience of supporting delivery of a service under minimal supervision.
Previous knowledge of working in a relevant hospital based role and/or in a clerical role is essential. An understanding of National NHS waiting time targets would be desirable.

This is a fixed term post of 8 months duration.
Main duties of the job
- Be responsible for the analysis and adjustment of complex patient pathways and able to support and advise2. Ensure that every patient and health care professional that utilises the Wythenshawe Hospital RAPID Hub service has an excellent experience.3. Provide both verbal and appropriate written information to patients about their forthcoming appointments and procedures.4. Team Leader for other members of the RAPID team5. Assist medical staff to triage patients into the service and identify those patients suitable for clinical trials.6. Track patients throughout their journey, against the relevant patient pathways ensuring that patients are managed well within the relevant national target. Take appropriate action/escalate any delays7. Use judgement involving facts and situations when escalating issues to lead clinicians and Trust management.8. Feedback to relevant departments on investigation results, agreed treatment plans, occasional completion of further investigation forms.9. Access and manipulate a number of trust computer systems to track patient's progress, patient's case notes and the current status of diagnostic tests10. Work with MDT co-coordinators to facilitate access to the weekly Regional Lung Cancer Multi-disciplinary Team meetings11. The post holder will require knowledge of many software programmes to create, maintain and manipulate various complex programmes
