Job summary

You will be a qualified Educational Mental Health Practitioner, or have an equivalent qualification, and work across the 3 main functions of MHST's - delivering evidence-based interventions for young people presenting with mild/moderate mental health difficulties, supporting schools and colleges develop a whole school approach to mental health and providing advise and consultation.

You will work flexibly in and around several educational settings, working alongside education colleagues to develop and provide preventive and early help support to meet the needs of their pupils experiencing low intensity mental health issues, mainly anxiety, low mood and emotional regulation.

You will deliver low intensity, short-term, evidence-based interventions to Children and Young People in education settings as well as providing rapid access to relevant specialist mental health services when appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision, you will undertake initial assessments with young people in a holistic and young person-centred way, including gathering of appropriate information from the child / young person, their family and from other relevant agencies. You will develop a formulation and plan for intervention, in partnership with the young person and those in their support network and communicate this to the referrer and other relevant professionals.

You will deliver evidenced based interventions on a 1:1 and group basis in schools/colleges and community settings, to develop and support the whole school/college approach to emotional wellbeing, to offer timely consultation and advice to education mental health leads, provision of training and workshop delivery to partner agencies and education staff.
