Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and talented registered clinical scientist with a number of years' experience to become part of our nuclear medicine physics team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). You will join our friendly, collaborative and multidisciplinary team, providing support to several departments across the region. The role demands experience of independent working, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to interact with a range of disciplines along with excellent patient communication. Candidates with MPE status are desired, however candidates close (within 6 months) toportfoliosubmission may be considered.

The Nuclear Medicine service at MFT operates over three sites providing services for the populations of Manchester. Combined, the service covers 10 gamma camera (5 SPECT-CT) spread over 5 sites along with one PET-CT scanner, as well as providing non-imaging studies and therapeutic radioiodine therapy for benign disease. You will be part of a team of physicists covering all sites, including the provision of scientific and regulatory support to the University of Manchester PET-MR scanner

The department has a very active research agenda, with work routinely presented at both national and international forums and is well known for its work in Nuclear Cardiology. The physics team are fully integrated with the clinical operation, with excellent relationships with all staff groups and routine patient interaction.

Main duties of the job

This role will consist of a broad range of duties and responsibilities, covering areas such as routine quality control, radiation protection advice, MPE advice, protocol development and an active involvement in research projects. Whilst based on the Oxford Road campus, you will be required to work away from base at different sites across the region. The PET-CT service also operates an extended day and as such you be expected to participate in the extended day rota. The main duties of the role would be:

  • Lead on certain aspects of the physics service
  • Provide radiation protection advice across all supported sites
  • Assist in ensuring regulatory compliance across all supported sites
  • Providing MPE advice across all supported sites
  • Undertake and assess quality assurance and quality control programmes
  • Involvement in the benign thyroid therapy service
  • Participating in and initiating research projects
  • Participate in the delivery of the STP training program
