Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen due to the emerging nature of midwifery services in Manchester for a highly skilled and experienced midwife to join the leadership team in Saint Mary's Division as Patient Safety Midwife for Inpatient Services on the Oxford Road Campus.
Supporting the Maternity Governance Team and the Matron for Inpatient Services to improve patient safety by promoting safe practice and robust patient safety systems with a particular focus on antenatal and postnatal inpatient risk management.
Be a member of the Site Obstetric Quality and Safety Committee
Support the MFT investigation process; including reviewing clinical incidents, providing feedback to Ward Managers and working alongside them in developing local actions to improve care, supporting the Matron for Inpatient Services to manage incidents and being part of the investigation team as required.
Support completion of the Duty of Candour requirements and provide feedback to families following review of clinical incidents
Support quality improvement initiatives and the MFT Improving Quality Programme (IQP); including identifying areas for improvement / themes arising from clinical incidents
Support the process for developing and updating clinical guidelines.
Provide support with risk management to other areas as service need requires
Provide clinical care to women and their families if required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a key leadership role within the Inpatient Services Team and will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the division's quality and safety agenda. The post holder will support the Matron for Inpatient Services to enhance and develop high standards of care through patient safety incident response management, risk management, education and continuous quality improvement. The post holder will be an advocate for women and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within Saint Mary's Hospital Managed Clinical Service ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld.
Maternity services at Saint Mary's provide women living in Central Manchester, Wythenshawe, Trafford, Salford the North West and beyond with primary, secondary and tertiary obstetric services. Saint Mary's is renowned both regionally and nationally for its research, clinical fetal and maternal medicine services.
There is an established midwifery team delivering care to low risk women and a multidisciplinary team comprising of obstetricians, midwives, anaesthetists, neonatologists and physicians providing care to women with specialist fetal and maternal medical needs.
In this key role you will be part of the Maternity Governance team working closely with the Ward Managers for the Inpatient areas, the Matron for Inpatient Services, the Deputy Head of Midwifery and the Head of Midwifery.
