Job summary
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic colleagues who will work well within the team and offer flexibility around delivery of infection services across the MFT footprint. The ideal candidate will have expertise across a broad range of Infectious Diseases and have a special interest in areas such as High Consequence Infections, Research, Education or Hepatitis.
The SRIDC is one of the busiest Infectious Diseases (ID) services in the country, providing secondary and tertiary infection expertise across Greater Manchester and the Northwest region of England. The ID team works closely with other infection services in MFT, including Microbiology, Virology, Mycology, Respiratory, Hepatology and Integrated Sexual Health.
The ID teams at NMGH and Wythenshawe hospitals are in the process of forming a Managed Single Service which will commence on 1st August 2023, resulting in one of the largest ID services in the country. In the future the Infectious Diseases Service will combine with the other infection services in MFT to become the largest infection department in the UK. Most of the post will be based at North Manchester General Hospital, with the potential to work some sessions at other MFT sites in the future.
Main duties of the job
The post holder(s) will work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team alongside 9 other Infectious Diseases consultants, and a full multidisciplinary team, managing a broad range of infections.
Clinical:
- ID outpatient clinics with supervision of trainees and specialist nurses. Clinics are based at either primary, secondary or community care sites, as well as prisons.
- Provision of inpatient care to patients with infections on a specialist infection ward based at NMGH. The team offers care for patients with a range of infections
- Provision of NMGH based infection consult, AMS and bloodstream infection service supporting all NMGH based clinical services including critical care
- Provide consultant support for the Manchester Home IV service, alongside microbiology colleagues in MFT.
- Participation in multi-disciplinary teams including HIV, Hepatitis, Neuroradiology/ID, inpatient, complex infection MDT meetings
- Regional Infection advice service - available 24/7
- Provision of infectious diseases on-call service as part of an ID
- Consultant on call rota
