Job summary

To play a pivotal role in supporting the BCSP by;

Working collaboratively with the Programme Hub

Undertake comprehensive patient assessments.

Flexibility to work between different Hospital/community sites to provide a service to Bowel Cancer Screening participants, you must have access to a car and a full UK driver licence

Utilise specialist knowledge & advanced communication skills with patients receiving significant news and to provide psychological support on diagnosis.

During all stages of the pathway you will need to ensure timely access to diagnostic interventions & a seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary or outpatient care settings.

When cancer is detected you will be responsible for establishing effective links with local colorectal MDTs to ensure there is a timely presentation & transfer of patients within the pathway.

Populate & maintain the Bowel Cancer Screening System.

Education is provided, and you will be expected to complete the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Specialist Screening Practitioner Course at Liverpool John Moore's University. Successful completion of this course within 2 years of being in post is mandatory in order for you to continue in post. You will also attend a mandatory national computer database course for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. You will also be enrolled on to a 2 day Advanced Communication Course as part of the role involves informing patients of significant results.

Main duties of the job

Relevant Degree plus significant Post Graduate experience or equivalent knowledge and training experience

Post-registration qualification in specialty or related field.

Teaching and assessing.

Broad range of clinical experience with specific experience in specialty

Participated in service development and implementation of change.

Application of teaching within the work area

Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialist care

Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.

Able to present written information in a logical manner.

Basic IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets

Able to manage own workload and work with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of professional and NHS issues.

Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care set

Good attendance record

Able to drive and travel between sites
