Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Perfusion department here at Wythenshawe hospital, Manchester. The team comprises of 11 qualified pperfusionists and a trainee. The cardiac surgery department is expanding and will open a fourth theatre next month.
This opportunity is ideal for a qualified candidate wanting to expand their perfusion skills and knowledge into new areas. We are looking for someone keen to learn and broaden their perfusion experience.
The cardiac surgery team here carries out around 1000 procedures per year. All types of adult cardiac surgery are carried out including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacements and complex aortic repairs.
Wythenshawe is also a heart and lung transplant centre, which also leads to the care of heart failure patients on mechanical support devices such as ECMO, VAD, BIVAD and implantable Heartmate.
We are also a VV Respiratory ECMO centre and carry out retrievals from outlying hospitals.
Experience in Transplantation and ECMO is not essential as full training in these areas will be given.
The post is ideal for someone recently qualified. We will also consider any perfusionists scheduled to qualify this year, with proviso that any job offer would conditional on the applicant achieving accreditation with the UK College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists (CCPS) this year.
Main duties of the job
These duties include the set up and running of the heart lung machine for all types of adult cardiac surgery. The set up and running of ECMO and VAD circuits for the support of heart failure patients.
Perfusion for Heart and Lung Transplantation along with the operation of long term VAD devices such as Heartmate.
Experience of IABP's and cell savers plus blood coagulation monitoring is essential.
