Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to promote and improve the mental health and well-being of Children, Young People with physical health conditions and those who care for them. Working for the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS) at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, you'll work with Children and Young People aged up to 18 years and who present with a wide range of complex emotional and behavioural difficulties associated with physical health conditions. You'll be supported to manage a defined caseload and have the responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people. We'll rely on you to ensure there is effective and sensitive communication between the Children and Young People, their carers, the MDT and other relevant agencies. PPS is part of MFT CAMHS which sits within Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The team is organised into 3 groups; Medicine/Surgery, Neurosciences and Critical Care/Burns. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Medicine/Surgery Team for 3 days and the Neurosciences and Critical Care/Burns Teams for 2 days. We provide inpatient and outpatient support to children and young people with a wide range of physical health conditions on a local, regional, national and international basis. Wherever your interests lie, we'll support you to develop your skills to become an expert in your field.

Main duties of the job

With full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists alongside a recognised qualification in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy as recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists, you'll have a working knowledge of CAMHS, paediatrics and/or adult mental health and have an understanding of assessing complex mental health needs & levels of risk, including safeguarding and self-harm.

Using your experience of working with vulnerable people and their carers who present with complex mental health needs and are often a risk to themselves or others, you'll undertake assessments and formulate plans for intervention, in collaboration with the Child, Young Person and those who care for them.

Dedicated to providing an environment that encourages patient-centred involvement, you'll promote good working relationships as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, making sure care is coordinated with the internal and external departments you work with, with the ultimate aim of providing the best patient journey possible.

Using your knowledge of evidence-based practice, you'll offer therapeutic solutions in line with the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and will have the opportunity to develop expertise in specific therapeutic approaches including CBT, ACT, CFT and more.
