Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Speech & Language Therapist to join our friendly clinical team supporting adults with learning disabilities in the community. This is a new opportunity offering long-term career progression to develop your clinical skills through from a Band 5 to a specialist Band 6 position.

You will be based in a community learning disability team with colleagues from physiotherapy, clinical psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, psychiatry and social work.

You will work with clients with a range of learning disabilities and associated difficulties e.g. sensory impairments, mental health conditions, autism and physical disabilities.

We work with people and their careers wherever it is most meaningful to offer support - for example this could be in their family homes, supported tenancies, colleges, local communities, work places and day centers.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your expertise in a variety of clinical areas. As a core part of the progression route to Band 6 you will be supported to complete the post-basic dysphagia course to develop your independence and skills as a specialist practitioner.

Wider clinical support will be available through regular clinical supervision, SLT meetings, project work and access to internal and external courses.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a multidisciplinary health and social care Community Learning Disability Team providing speech and language therapy to adults with significant learning disabilities and communication difficulties, both receptive and expressive ranging in type and severity.

To manage a designated dysphagia caseload within the field of ALD dependent on experience.

Work will be undertaken in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the clients and carers.

The client base will be socially, culturally and linguistically diverse.

The exact duties and place of work may vary according to the needs of the service and negotiation with the post holder.
