Job summary
Due to a secondment, an exciting opportunity for an 18 month fixed term contract has arisen in the Trauma Orthopaedic and Major Trauma therapy team, at Manchester Royal Infirmary, in our established Major Trauma Centre. We are looking for a new colleague to add to our large, friendly team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants. We provide therapy across our Major Trauma and Orthopaedic Trauma Units. As a Therapy Assistant you will be working under the supervision and guidance of trained Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver a high standard of therapy care and management.
The successful candidate will need to work to a patient centred model of care, demonstrating compassion and enthusiasm to enable patients to reach their potential and to optimise their level of independence. The team is proactive in the development of both staff & service and is committed to Continuous Personal Development including regular in-service training and & education with regular appraisals & supervision.
We need someone who is caring and passionate in providing high-quality care to our patients who range from young adults to the elderly population. Prior experience of working with this specialist client group is preferable, but not essential. A compassionate nature, effective communication skills and a resilient temperament are required to successfully work in this setting.
Main duties of the job
- To work with patients to achieve their identified rehabilitation goals, which have been set by the qualified OT/ PT, through a wide range of therapeutic activities. E.g., skilled therapeutic handling of patients, mobilising, personal activities of care.
- Following delegation by the registered member of staff, carry out agreed therapeutic treatment plans, working unsupervised after successful completion of relevant competencies.
- To prepare and restore patients and the environment prior to and following therapy treatment programmes.
- To communicate with patients to gain consent to treatment, and to ensure patients understanding, co-operation and compliance.
- To communicate information from the assessment and treatment to patients, carers, other family members, members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and other professionals and agencies
- To be competent in treating patients in a group/class setting as well as on an individual basis.
- To assist and accompany therapists on home visits.
- To contribute to weekend/ 7 day/evening service cover, as required.
- To support the effective running of our day to day service through administration tasks, equipment and stock management
- To evaluate and progress basic therapy interventions for patients in activities related to their treatment or rehabilitation programme.
- To record patient information, interventions, and interactions onto the IT systems in accordance with local and national guidelines
