Lead Clinical Terminologist

Hive Programme

Be the link between leading-edge medical software and an outstanding NHS Trust.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), is the largest acute trust in the UK, with over 20,000 staff that care for over million patients a year. We're embarking on an unprecedented clinical transformation programme that will revolutionise the way we work. We've partnered with a world-class medical software company to introduce Hive, a brand-new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) solution that will bring all our patient information into one easily accessible place and make our services more effective than ever before.

Hive is the largest initiative of its kind and is backed by a significant multi-million-pound investment. It's also an exciting opportunity to bring your expertise, and develop through a challenging, complex project. With your help, we'll build on our leading initiatives and transform our services for the benefit of patients and staff alike.

Main duties of the job

The role

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a Lead Clinical Terminologist to join the Hive programme team as we develop our new Trust-wide electronic patient record (EPR). This is a rare opportunity to play a major role in the configuration and roll out of a multi-million pound healthcare IT project in one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country.

MFT has procured Epic for our new EPR and this will replace over 700 existing hospital systems. The Lead Clinical Terminologist will play a vital role in ensuring that structured terminology is at the heart of our EPR. They will help design our EPR so that structured terms can be used easily by healthcare professionals whilst also meeting the Trust's needs for research and reporting.

The Lead Clinical Terminologist will need to work closely with our healthcare professionals, our reporting and analytics teams and the EPR configuration teams. They should have experience of using the SNOMED CT terminology system and a keen interest in clinical informatics. This is a permanent position and we hope that the successful candidate will continue to drive the development of MFT's structured electronic healthcare record well beyond the initial launch of our new system.

About us

MFT is England's largest NHS Trust with a turnover of £2.5bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We're creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you'll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We've also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our brand-new Electronic Patient Record system which we've launched in September 2022.

We're proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What's more, we're excited to be embarking on our new Green Plan which will set out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
