Job summary

Bluebird House is one of six Forensic Children's mental health units in the country and one of only two that accept both male and female patients.

You will have the opportunity to work with some of the most complex 12-18 year olds in the country who experience complex mental health difficulties and challenging behaviour.

Many of the young people we help have experienced previous placements breakdown, prior to being admitted to Bluebird. We always ensure we spend a lot of time building a relationship with all of our young people by providing a safe, controlled environment.

Due to our continued success we are currently in the process of opening an additional, new, ward to enable us to offer more help and support to more of our young people.

As a Health care support worker you will work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. You will work closely with the young people, their families, friends and carers. You will play an important role in ensuring those who use our services have a positive and supportive experience. Successful candidates will need to be kind and responsive and remain professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide.

Bluebird House operates 24 hour cover therefore, you are required to work shifts which will include nights. There are a variety of shifts available and all requests for flexible and part time working will be considered.

Main duties of the job

To provide physical and psychological care to patients in accordance with the plan of clinical care.

Undertake a range of delegated clinical health duties.

Lead on engaging with patients in identifying appropriate activities outside the therapeutic structured day. Lead the implementation and evaluation of activities.

Work in collaboration with key MDT disciplines in implementation and evaluation of group work within the service.

To provide support to the nurse in charge and/or the person responsible for the clinical care of the patient.

To accurately record patient information.

To provide support to relatives/carers.

To have sufficient skills and experience to work with minimal need for supervision due to competence in role.

To have a proactive role in identifying and addressing the needs of patients.
