Job summary
We are recruiting a Band 7 ECT Lead Nurse (22.5 hours per week) to oversee the day to day running and delivery of the ECT service at Parklands Hospital, Basingstoke.
The clinic provides Electroconvulsive Therapy for inpatient and community services across the Mid and North Division of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are developing ambitious plans for the service and are seeking an enthusiastic leader to help shape the future of ECT provision. You will be supported in your development and welcomed into a friendly, dynamic, and passionate multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, support workers, psychiatrists, anaesthetists, and ODPs.
The clinic operates two half days per week. The post includes ECT assessment, posttreatment care, audit activity, and ensuring compliance with ECTAS standards. The service is fully accredited under the Electroconvulsive Therapy Accreditation Service (ECTAS), part of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Quality Improvement Centre.
Strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and the ability to support and guide colleagues are essential. You will contribute to service development, staff supervision, appraisal, and training. Previous ECT experience is essential. Main duties of the job
Maintain professional accountability in line with the NMC Code and ensure high standards of care within the ECT service.
Act as a patient advocate, promoting safe, person centred care at all times.
Provide advanced clinical knowledge, decision making and specialist support within the ECT clinic.
Record all patient contacts and interventions in line with Trust recordkeeping policies.
Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives, and professionals including GPs, IMHAs, anaesthetic teams and theatre staff.
Deliver Trust core briefings and support the dissemination of key service updates.
Provide formal and informal teaching to substantive and NHSP staff.
Maintain accurate written and electronic records of all ECT activity.
Work with the Advanced Clinical Nurse Practitioner and Lead Consultant Psychiatrist to meet ECTAS accreditation standards.
Provide clinical leadership for the ECT clinic.
Demonstrate expert understanding of ECT indications, contraindications and potential adverse effects.
Lead on audit, outcome measures and patient feedback, contributing to national reporting requirements.
Work collaboratively to standardise competencies and practice across the ECT service.
Escalate and manage complaints and incidents in line with Trust policy.
Validate referrals, ensuring appropriate assessment and care planning.
Contribute to research, audit and evaluation to support ongoing service improvement.
