Job summary

The Specialist Community Forensic Service (SCFT) operates across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and aims to reduce patients' length of stay in forensic units. We work with patients who have a diagnosis of mental illness and have been in contact with the criminal justice system and are transitioning out of secure inpatient services. Our patients are typically people with a range of mental health difficulties, and on occasions a cognitive deficit and ASD, The team work closely with our patients as they move into the community so that they can eventually live safely and independently with the support of our community mental health services. The focus is on offering the least restrictive care possible and providing an alternative to a secure inpatient setting.

In terms of community services this includes preventative work, thorough risk assessment and management advice, as well as assessment and intervention for specific offending behaviours. The team works in close liaison with low and medium secure services in Hampshire, and with community placements providers in the region to support and expediate discharge to the community.

Please note this is a part time role for 30 hrs per week , we are not able to offer full time hours

Main duties of the job

To undertake specialised psychological assessments, risk assessments, adapted treatments and other types of clinical intervention with individual & groups of patients within the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT).

To be able to work independently, under supervision, on a day-to-day basis. This work will be reviewed regularly with supervision usually being offered by the Principal Counselling Psychologist.

To abide by the British Psychological Society (BPS) Professional Code of Conduct, local and national policies and procedures that define scope of practice, and to meet induction standards.
