Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist to join our team to lead in the provision of therapy to patients in our Neuro ESD service.

ESD provides time-limited, intensive, specialist neuro, home-based rehab with patients in Southampton city and surrounding Hampshire region, the service accepts patients primarily from University Hospitals Southampton, but also from other local acute units. The service also supports community-based clients, with a neuro diagnosis, to ensure they can remain in their homes.

The post holder will work closely with the other multidisciplinary team members consisting of Team Leads, trainee ACP, Physio's, Psychologists, OTs, Rehab Assistants, and admin support. Also maintaining close links with the wider SLT services and have the opportunity to lead on service development in these services.ESD is part of HIOWH Neuro Rehab Services, you will work alongside ESD Team Leads and be supported by the Matron and SLT Professional Lead. You will receive profession specific and CPD support.

You will have significant post graduate experience which must include some specific stroke/neuro clinical experience, evidence of working within an MDT and experience of leading on service improvement projects or audits. You must have an enthusiasm for providing evidence-based practice, particularly in the field of aphasia therapy.

Main duties of the job

*To provide a highly specialist Speech & Language Therapy Service to a caseload including those with complex needs within area of speciality requiring highly specialist clinical knowledge and expertise.

*To work as part of an interdisciplinary neurological community team, in close collaboration with other relevant services/agencies e.g. acute stroke unit, community rehab teams, virtual wards, rapid response etc.

*To work as an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialist assessments, diagnosis and management of patients with swallowing and communication disorders and determine profession specific and multidisciplinary rehabilitation interventions.

*To work alongside the Team Leads, sharing responsibility for agreed leadership roles across the broader MDT.

*To support the SLT Professional Lead and Clinical Matron, deputising when required.

*To provide a lead role across the service and trust within specialist area, working with Team/locality and care pathway leads, Professional Lead for Adult SLT and other highly specialist colleagues, providing clinical leadership, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up-to-date evidence-based care.

*To provide leadership for developing and evaluating the service.

*To provide clinical advice and second opinions.

*To be a source of expertise and support to colleagues across the service and will work with other statutory and independent agencies to ensure a holistic approach to client management.
