Main duties of the job

This post is part of the HIOWH NHS Foundation Trust Neuropsychology service. This service focuses on Clinical Neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation for adults, with an acquired brain injury with cognitive, emotional and behavioural sequelae, living in the community with their partners, family and carers. The service aims to minimise the negative effects of brain injury and to maximise the neuropsychological and emotional functioning of clients referred to the service.

Neurologically impaired clients and their families can be distressed, behaviourally disturbed, disinhibited and contribute to an emotionally charged and stressful environment. Clinical work will involve direct contact with individuals and families going through a range of changes such as possible relationship breakdown; potential loss of employment; family distress; mental health difficulties and challenging behaviours. There is occasional exposure to hostile situations with potential for both physical and verbal aggression. High levels of interpersonal and communication skills are required in addition to being able to maintain a high degree of professionalism under difficult circumstances.
