We are recruiting highly motivated and innovative practitioners to train as Health Visitors, to lead 0-19 Public Health Nursing and deliver great service to our children and families in Hampshire & the Isle of Wight.

Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHNs) work at individual, community and population level in a preventative social model of health empowering families to take control of and improve their own health and wellbeing.

We are inviting NMC qualified nurses and applicants who have an NMC pin prior to the commencement of the programme (Part 1, Part 2), to apply for a training contract to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health Practice, with University of Surrey.

Successful applicants must have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree. Applicants who have a Diploma in Education or a bachelors degree with a lower grade may be considered using the University of Surrey Advanced Standing process.

You need to have an NMC registration before starting the course, a full driving licence including business car insurance and use of a vehicle. This post is subject to Occupational Health Clearance and an enhanced DBS check.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate the achievement of competencies necessary to practice as a Student SCPHN by completion of the Practice Assessment Document.

Study for and achieve the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.

To work as a Student SCPHN within the community as a member of a Health Visiting/School Nurse 0-19 Team as appropriate.

To work under the guidance of a Practice Teacher/Community Practice Assessor and/or Practice Supervisor.

To attend practice placement on days designated by the university (including confirmation of practice).

To comply with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare Trusts Policies and Procedures and to include Local Safeguarding Children Board Procedures (LSCB).

To participate in staff training and induction programmes including attendance at mandatory training sessions as required by HIOWH.

To work in accordance with the NMC code of professional practice and maintain legible, accurate and contemporaneous records.

To keep an accurate diary which reflects daily work and mileage.

A full driving licence is required and use of own vehicle as travel across Hampshire for meetings and training will be required regularly.
