Job summary
The Specialty Doctor will join the acute inpatient team at Elmleigh Hospital, working on either Ruby Ward (female, 16 beds) or Sapphire Ward (male, 17 beds). The role focuses on delivering high-quality assessment, treatment, and ongoing management for adults experiencing acute phases of functional mental illness, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and personality disorders.
Working alongside two consultants, middle grade doctors, resident doctors, and a skilled multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide daily clinical reviews, contribute to MDT meetings, lead CPAs, prepare tribunal reports, and ensure safe, evidence based care. The role includes 8 PAs of direct clinical care and 2 PAs of supporting professional activities, such as CPD, audit, peer groups, and service development.
The doctor will participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and teaching activities, with opportunities for supervision training and research involvement. The Trust supports Section 12 approval, CESR progression, and ongoing professional development. Main duties of the job
To undertake timely administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively
To participate in annual appraisal for doctors
To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust internal CPD programme.
To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, work towards the Mental Health Act Section 12(2), and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services.
To support junior medical staff working with the post-holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are compliant with the Working Time Directive
To comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and where appropriate to take an active role in the financial management
Involvement in chairing and leading CPAs, Professionals' meetings, Tribunal reports and Hearings, also MDT meetings.
Identify, contribute to or lead on aspects in the development and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, standards and protocols as required and implement change to improve the quality of patient care.
