Job summary

The post holder will be part of the Community Paediatric Medical Service (CPMS) to provide clinical support and administrative assistance for the Community Paediatricians and the Nursing Team. Offer support before, during and after Neurodevelopment and Looked After Children clinical sessions to ensure they run efficiently and effectively, whilst ensuring the health and wellbeing of the children and young people is always priority.

When requested, provide vision, hearing, and growth screening across various community-based sites within Southampton City and South West Hampshire / Portsmouth City, Havant, Fareham and Gosport as required.

To provide administrative support to the CPMS clinics, including preparation and any follow up required and to ensure accurate updating of electronic patient records. To gather and collate user response forms and assist the Lead Nurse with the reporting of response of service users.

Main duties of the job

  • Prepare for clinic sessions by ensuring that records have been received
  • On request test vision, hearing and accurately measure the growth of children during appointments.
  • To communicate effectively with children and young people
  • Promote and encourage user feedback
  • To undertake Schedule of Growing Skills developmental assessments for children 1-5yrs
  • To support clinicians by gathering investigation results and sharing as appropriate
  • To work closely with colleagues in a second or parallel clinic when necessary.
  • Follow up and maintain accurate records
  • To organise/plan tasks/play activities for the child as necessary during the consultation
  • Ensure records comply with the agreed record keeping systems.
  • Ensure new and replacement equipment is calibrated, tested, and maintained to a good standards, in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To ensure condemned equipment is disposed of appropriately, via the approved routes.
  • Follow all infection prevention and control procedures as per Trust policy.
  • Ensure that any concerns with risk, safety and/or patient care are escalated to senior staff, and that an incident form is completed in a timely manner.
  • Follow Trust clinical governance requirements as per Trust policy.
  • Work positively with colleagues to maintain effective relationships.
  • To participate in on-going audit and professional development as required.
  • To help reduce Was Not Brought (WNB) numbers, maximise capacity and reduce waiting times for CPMS by confirming attendance prior to clinics.
