Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist or Psychological Therapist to join the Fareham Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) based at Fareham Health Centre with the possibility of also providing support to Gosport CMHT. This is fixed term for 2 years.

The CMHT works with adults aged 18 years plus with complex, severe and enduring mental health problems. The principles and philosophy of care are based on the recovery model and we work closely with other CMHT team members as well as inpatient and crisis services.

The role will involve implementing a programme of group interventions as well as providing consultation, brief intervention and longer term therapy. There is an opportunity for supervision to other team members as well as individual input with clients based on evidence based Psychological interventions.

The successful candidate will join the Portsmouth and South East Area Psychological Therapies Service, comprised of 35 psychologists and psychological therapists with expertise in CBT, DBT, CAT, ACT and EMDR. We have good supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as good links with Southampton University, particularly with the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology and the Post Graduate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programme.

We will consider applicants who are working towards accreditation in an Evidence Based Psychological Therapy on a transitional band 6 post, with progression to band 7 upon successful award of accreditation.

Main duties of the job

This job involves working as part of a team to deliver effective psychological therapy to people with severe and enduring mental health problems. We have an effective group program that you can contribute to and we are also implementing some brief assessment and interventions for people waiting for therapy.

This role is varied and involves working collaboratively to contribute to MDT discussions, input into effective referral screening and supporting a fantastic team of people to work psychologically. Delivery of therapy can include face to face and online work, collecting outcome measures to remain curious about how we can improve the work we do.

There is an opportunity to supervise others and also to think creatively about how to effectively deliver care to the community we serve. CPD is also a focus as is your own supervision.

  • Experience of undertaking psychological assessment, formulation and intervention with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course, or receive training towards this.
  • Experience of providing evidence-based psychological therapy (or agree to train towards this), both individually and in groups, across a variety of presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity, whilst maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of working with clients with complex needs, including psychosis and behaviours consistent with a diagnosis of personality disorder.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary setting.
