Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Head of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care

The closing date is 25 January 2026

Job summary

As an organisation we aspire to provide high quality, safe services which improve the health, well-being and independence of our service users. There are many challenges and opportunities that come with being such a large provider, not least of these is to ensure we continue to strive to provide the best evidenced based care possible while ensuring that the health and well-being of our workforce is supported during times of change and increased demand throughout the NHS.

Our chaplaincy service has a key role in achieving these aims. Our chaplaincy team has limited resource and has to work flexibly to provide support Trust wide across a large geographical area. The Lead Chaplain will have the strategic vision and drive to build and develop a chaplaincy service attaining high standards and positive health outcomes for all. The post holder will need to review the current chaplaincy provision across the organisation developing a service that enables a visible chaplaincy/pastoral care provision across all teams and services.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the local diocese and faith communities to expand the opportunities available to pastoral care volunteers.

About us

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides joined-up mental and physical healthcare for around two million people across our communities. With over 13,000 staff working in the community and local hospitals, we deliver care at every stage of life, helping people live their best and healthiest lives.

Our mental health services include community-based support and early intervention in psychosis (EIP) for both adults and young people, alongside a network of specialist inpatient wards covering forensic, learning disability, eating disorder and older person's care.

We deliver extensive physical health services too, from urgent community response teams helping frail and older patients remain safely at home, to hospitals at home teams providing acute-level care in familiar surroundings. Our neurological services offer rehabilitation and treatment for conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Head Injury, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.

Everything we do is underpinned by our CARE values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence
