Job summary
We are seeking a passionate and motivated doctor (FY2--CT3 level) to join our dynamic team in General Adult Mental Health at St James Hospital, The Orchards. This full-time Trust Grade role offers the chance to make a real impact by providing high-quality, patient-centred care within a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
You will work alongside experienced clinicians and a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage adults with acute mental health conditions, including severe mood disorders and psychosis. The role involves ward rounds, MDT meetings, and contributing to safe discharge planning, with opportunities to engage in Mental Health Act processes under senior supervision.
Although non-training, you will benefit from consultant educational supervision, regular teaching sessions, and involvement in audits and quality improvement projects. Main duties of the job
As a Trust Grade Doctor (FY2--CT3 level) in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care for adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulating and reviewing treatment plans, prescribing and monitoring medication, and managing physical health concerns.
- Participating in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and clinical handovers to ensure continuity of care.
- Contributing to risk assessments, safeguarding processes, and discharge planning in collaboration with nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers.
- Engaging in teaching activities, including junior doctor induction, education programmes, and journal clubs.
- Participating in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and demonstrating awareness of national and local guidelines (e.g., NICE) to influence best practice.
- Attending Trust educational sessions and departmental meetings, with opportunities to present at seminars and conferences.
