Job summary

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS FT are delighted to offer an opportunity for a Paediatric Specialty Doctor to join the team at our Battenburg Avenue Child Development Centre in Portsmouth. This is a full time (10PA) post, but consideration would be given to applicants wanting to work a minimum of 6PA. It is a 12 month fixed term contract and would suit a resident doctor wishing to take time out of programme to develop their neurodevelopmental competencies, a GP looking for a change of career, or a doctor returning from a career break.

The post includes responsibility for locality neurodevelopmental clinics in Portsmouth City with appropriate clinical supervision, and a contribution to the in hours child protection rota. Other clinical responsibilities could be negotiated dependant on the skills and interest of the successful applicant. The office base is at Battenburg Avenue Child Development Centre, Portsmouth.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake neurodevelopmental clinics within a geographical locality (Portsmouth City) and clinics within special schools.

  • Coordinate continuing paediatric management of children with disabilities through outpatient clinics, provide paediatric advice for Education, Health and Care Plans.

  • Contribute to the child protection medical service for the assessment and management of children where abuse or neglect are suspected, under supervision of a senior doctor.
  • Contribute to undergraduate medical student teaching.
