Job summary
The Public Health Nursing (School Nursing) Service in Southampton is looking for Nurses to join our team to deliver the healthy child programme to children and their families in the city. We welcome applications from all Registered Nurses, Adult, Child, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, and Registered Midwives.
We are looking for motivated practitioners to support the Public Health Nursing Service in our trust. You will be working with us to promote health and wellbeing in a range of community settings including schools. The Healthy Child Programme (5-16) focuses on school aged children and young people up to the age of 16 years and our service delivers this to those who are in mainstream education and those who are in home education. Ability to travel to and work in different settings is essential.
Ideal, but not essential, experience will be having worked in school nursing services previously and experience in offering a range of health and development reviews, screening tests, immunisations, health promotion guidance and tailored support for children and families, with additional support when they need it.
We are passionate about staff development, and we would be supportive for the right candidate to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) course in School Nursing which is offered in our trust.

Main duties of the job
The role of the School Health Nurse is to work within the 0-16 child and families team to help deliver the Healthy Child Programme to children, young people and their families within the city of Southampton. This will involve assessments to identify health issues and provide support to address the needs of the child or young person.
To promote the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care identified within the defined client group and their families. To work in partnership with Schools to encourage parental involvement in the life of the school and its pupils.
To offer support, guidance and line management to multi-disciplinary teams, particularly within Education, and promote the School Nursing / Health Visiting service within the diverse multi-agency field.
To work with Management and Primary Care to contribute to the achievement of Trust targets.
To work to achieve the Service specification requirements and key performance indicators.
