Job summary
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Pharmacy and Medicines Management Team support the clinical, cost-effective, safe and secure use of medicines Trust wide via a number of teams and services.
The St Marys Pharmacy within the St Marys Community Health Campus in Portsmouth dispenses medicines to all patients attending or admitted to healthcare units in the Trust's East area, and provides support and supply services, in particular to Mental Health and Community Hospitals. Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians provide clinical pharmacy services to wards and community patients across the Trusts service lines and localities, including services into Primary Care Networks and GP practices. The Medicines Management Team lead on medicines policy, governance and the digital medicines agenda ( including electronic prescribing) Trust wide.
This role is dispensary based and suitable applicants will have the necessary skills and experience to provide an efficient accurate pharmacy service.
Main duties of the job
*Labelling and dispensing of medication as required, including controlled drugs, monitored dose systems and clinical trials in a timely, legally and ethically acceptable manner to meet customer needs.
*Final checking of prescriptions for accuracy prior to release.
*Participating, when trained, in the provision of ward-based Medicines Management services to on and off-site wards on a rotation when necessary
*Participation in the rotation for the provision of the clozapine service.
*Collection of NHS prescription charges where necessary and use of the till including cashing up procedures.
*Liaise with ward staff, clinics and other healthcare professionals as necessary and ensure any problems with prescriptions are referred on to the most appropriate member of staff where necessary
*Undertake administration duties as required.

Job responsibilities
*Labelling and dispensing of medication as required, including controlled drugs, monitored dose systems and clinical trials in a timely, legally and ethically acceptable manner to meet customer needs.

*Ensure action for drug / drug related recalls is carried out in accordance with the SOPs.
*Provision of information on the correct use of medicines, counselling patients
*Providing compliance aids / cards to minimise barriers to concordance and tailor the pharmacy service to the needs of the individual patients
*Ensure that each patient has sufficient understanding of how to manage their treatment including to-follow arrangements where necessary
*Prioritisation of workload to meet transport deadlines
*Contributing to pharmaceutical stock control within the department and on the wards, including participating in stock checks, tracing and resolving stock discrepancies and liaising with procurement and distribution staff as necessary
*Contributing to the development of competency based training packages
*Participating in data collection for planned audits
*To participate in the appraisal process
*Compliance with Trust and GPhC arrangements for continuing professional development and mandatory training including Information Governance requirements
*Assisting with the provision of in-house competency-based training and assessment for technicians, assistants and trainees within the department
*Assisting in the supervision and direction of technicians, assistants and trainees within allocated sections of the dispensary
*Willing to undertake the Practice Supervisors course and maintain competency once qualified.
*Contributing to the development and updating of the Standard Operating Procedures
*Observes systems in place to ensure the security of the pharmacy department and clinic areas.
*To be able to travel to other locations within the Trust for meetings, training as required and agreed in advance.
