Job summary
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) based at Tatchbury Mount, Southampton. This permanent post offers 10 programmed activities per week (7.5 Direct Clinical Care, 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities), with flexibility for applicants wishing to work less than full-time. The CRHTT provides a 24/7 service, supporting adults in crisis at home, gatekeeping admissions to acute wards, and working closely with inpatient, community, liaison, and partner services. The consultant will oversee complex cases, provide medical leadership, supervise junior staff, and ensure high standards of evidence-based, patient-centred care. Responsibilities include clinical governance, teaching, CPD, appraisal, and participation in service planning. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, local GPs, CAMHS, substance misuse, and learning disability services, with opportunities to contribute to research and education. On-call commitment is approximately 1:25, with contractual benefits including study leave, occupational health support, mentoring, and wellbeing programmes. Main duties of the job
To undertake timely administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively
To participate in service and business planning activity for the service
To participate in annual appraisal for consultants
To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician (AC) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
To work with local managers and professional colleagues
To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the Medical Director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
To comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for service
