Occupational Therapist - Inpatient Rehabilitation

Job summary
Our inpatient rehabilitation units are situated across two sites, Spinnaker Ward based at St Mary's Health Campus is currently a 16 bedded rehabilitation ward and Summerlee is on one level within a care home which is a 30 bedded unit with rehabilitation beds alongside D2A beds ward aligned within our service line Adults Portsmouth.
There are a broad range of referrals, mainly from the acute trust, for patients with varying needs, from simple to complex and with a range of conditions and co-morbidities.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Team in Portsmouth, pride themselves on their ability to innovate and adapt to the challenges of rehabilitation with active quality improvement programmes, to ensure that practice is current, and the patient voice is heard throughout.
Our vision is providing Quality Care which uses a person-centred approach, working closely with a wider multi-disciplinary team to achieve exceptional patient care and outcomes.
The Team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Doctors, Consultants, Social Workers and Healthcare Assistants who work together in an integrated way to provide co-ordinated, clinical support to promote independence and to improve quality of life.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a caseload of patients and their responsibilities will be:
*To assess, plan and provide interventions for patients with advice and guidance available from a Senior Occupational Therapist.
*To organise and deliver high quality, evidence based, patient centred interventions, evaluate outcomes and formulate plans for safe and timely discharge from the service
*To be responsible for supporting band 3 therapy assistants including clinical supervision
*Ensure that they work within the scope of their competencies, meeting Trust and professional standards and are expected to seek guidance when needed.
*This role will provide support in management of risk, developing therapeutic relationships, supporting people to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
*Act as a role model for team members, supporting new or less experienced colleagues.
*This role will demonstrate excellent communication skills, using them to engage, persuade or negotiate with clients with complex, at times challenging needs to ensure they are provided with the most appropriate care and support.
The applicant will be required to demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, using them to engage with patients, families, and colleagues whilst exemplifying trust values.
