Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Specialist Nurses to join our HIOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Pain Management Service. HIOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a large local provider of high-quality pain management services for patients with persistent pain with clinical teams based in Portsmouth, Romsey and Southampton. As a wider service we offer regular education, training and supervision and these activities reflect the nature of a truly interdisciplinary expert team. The clinical team within HIOW HNFT pain services includes medical consultants, psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses alongside a GPSI, occupational therapist and a health improvement practitioner. The team works together to provide a holistic approach to self-management, and to fulfil our team mission: To enable people to live well with pain by empowering, advising, supporting and signposting people, as well as by providing evidence-based interventions, as appropriate to their needs.
We currently have two vacancies for specialist nurses:
22 hours (0.6 WTE) Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and SE Hants locality
15 hours (0.4 WTE) SW Hants Locality - Romsey, Hythe, Lymington
Successful candidates will work as an integral member of our team to provide an inter-disciplinary approach to the management of complex chronic pain clients. The service requires the post holders to have a flexible and adaptable approach. Experience of adult group facilitation is an advantage.
Main duties of the job
*To work as an integral member of the pain management team to provide an inter-disciplinary approach to the management of complex chronic pain clients.
*To manage own caseload of patients with complex musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions.
*Provide specialist clinical assessment and evidence-based management, information and support for these patients
*To ensure patients receive optimisation of their pain medication (If non-medical prescriber)
*To work as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and MDT meetings. Access to advice and support from colleagues is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
*To deliver care to patients with highly complex biopsychosocial presentations through individual appointments and group sessions
*To participate in CPD and other developmental activities.
*To assist in the training and development of others in the management of persistent pain through teaching, supervision and advice and through the in-service training program. This may include supervision of other healthcare clinical staff / students.
*To assist departmental audit and / or research
*To liaise with other teams to identify client-centred needs and ensure progress through the appropriate care pathway.
*To ensure relevant clinical governance issues are identified and addressed.

- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

- Independent Prescriber -- completion of NMC independent nurse prescriber course and registered with NMC as an independent prescriber (or willing to work towards).
- Member of relevant Special Interest Groups
- Post graduate history taking / advanced physical assessment course
