Job summary
Are you a fitness instructor passionate about mental and physical health and wellbeing? If so, we have an exciting part time opportunity (30 hours per week) in our in-patient mental health unit in central Southampton, joining our supportive and dynamic multi-disciplinary teams working with adults with a range of mental health conditions.This is not a conventional gym instructor role, you will be using exercise as a therapeutic tool. You will be flexible, creative, resilient, able to think on your feet and adapt sessions to suit the needs and abilities of service users. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be approachable and encouraging. You will facilitate individual and small group sessions, completing inductions and fitness plans. Facilities include cardio machines, weights and a cable machine.Previous experience of planning and facilitation sessions, designing programmes and a keen interest in working within the mental health setting is essential.You will receive regular supervision and be supported to develop your skills in working with service users and within this environment. Collaboration is key and you will be an active part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate and conduct exercise programmes (including individual and group sessions) for service users.To work as part of the occupational therapy service providing input to groups and sessions promoting healthy lifestyles.To work closely with the occupational therapists and the multi disciplinary teams in the unit, recognising and immediately escalating any concerns around patient deterioration or lack of progression.Responsible for recognising signs of a potentially unwell patient while under their care either in class or individual setting and escalating appropriately in a timely manner.To be responsible for the diary management of their sessions/service users.To ensure the fitness room and equipment are maintained to the agreed standard reporting issues to the Occupational Therapy team manager.

- First Aid Qualification
